THE GHOSTLIGHT SERIES
STORIES AND SONGS IN THE MEANTIME

Join Theater Latté Da for THE GHOSTLIGHT SERIES, five virtual cabarets launching January 2021 beginning with TWELVE BLOCKS FROM WHERE I LIVE featuring Regina Marie Williams and showcasing images of Minneapolis captured through her own camera lens. RE-CAST invites some of your favorite Latte Da actors to perform roles they never get to play. HEROIC ACTS OF MUSIC sheds a light on performances throughout history when musicians chose melody and beauty over violence and oppression. We are thrilled to introduce Minnesota audiences to the award-winning Q Brothers Collective with THE RAP PACK, a hip hop cabaret developed as part of NEXT UP—our robust new works initiative. Finally, MUSIC TO OUR EYES: DESIGNERS SING OUT puts our designers centerstage; you’ve seen their beautiful work now hear their moving stories.

The Ghostlight Series will feature more than 40 Minnesota artists including:
Rush Benson, Paul Bigot, Cat Brindisi-Darrow, Aimee K. Bryant, David Darrow, Francesca Dawis, Jay Owen Eisenberg, Renee Guittar, Rich Hamson, John Jamison, Nora Montañez, Sara Ochs, Greta Oglesby, Sanford Moore, Britta Ollmann, Tod Petersen, Thomasina Petrus, Dan Piering, Jon-Michael Reese, Regina Marie Williams, Evan Tyler Wilson, Abbee Warmboe, and more.

We are grateful for the anonymous sponsor who generously underwrote the GHOSTLIGHT SERIES and for their ongoing support of Theater Latté Da.

THE GHOSTLIGHT SERIES INCLUDES THESE FIVE CABARET PERFORMANCES

TWELVE BLOCKS FROM WHERE I LIVE

Words & Photography by Regina Marie Williams
Directed by Kelli Foster Warder
Music Direction: Sanford Moore
Featuring: Regina Marie Williams, Aimee K. Bryant, Thomasina Petrus

On May 25 2020, Regina Marie Williams began to capture moments of pain and promise at the intersection of 38th and Chicago. TWELVE BLOCKS FROM WHERE I LIVE features photos and songs attempting to capture a profound Minneapolis moment that catapulted a national movement. Featuring performances by Aimee K. Bryant, Thomasina Petrus, Regina Marie Williams, and Sanford Moore.

RE-CAST

Directed by Kelli Foster Warder
Music Direction by Jason Hansen

Featuring Jay Owen Eisenberg, John Jamison, Nora Montañez, Sara Ochs, Tod Petersen, and Evan Tyler Wilson

We’ve invited some of your favorite artists to sing songs they have always wanted to sing. Actors can be plagued by the word “typecast”; so we asked them to remove those barriers, those expectations, and tell their own stories. It will be an evening filled with passion, joy and surprise.

HEROIC ACTS OF MUSIC

Curated and Directed by Peter Rothstein
Produced and Choreographed by Kelli Foster Warder
Videography and Video Design by Michael Hanisch

Featuring Rush Benson, Cat Brindisi-Darrow, Joe Cruz, David Darrow, Francesca Dawis, Jennifer Grimm, Renee Guittar, Sanford Moore, Greta Oglesby, Dan Piering, and Jon-Michael Reese

HEROIC ACTS OF MUSIC celebrates courageous moments in history when artists chose to make music in the face of violence or oppression. A cellist plays an Adagio during the seige of Sarajevo; teenagers defy Hitler’s order and dance to American Swing music in Nazi Germany; and in 1939, a Black opera singer denied a stage sings for a nation on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.

THE RAP PACK

The Rap Pack: GQ, JQ, Jax & Pos
Written and composed by Gregory Qaiyum, Jeffrey Qaiyum, Jackson Doran, Postell Pringle
Music by JQ
Video Design and Videography by Lucas Wells

THE RAP PACK is an experimental hip hop cabaret developed by the four members of Q Brothers Collective. It is an anachronistic smash-up of the old variety show, Vegas-style showbiz, and contemporary experimental hip hop -- blending singing, rapping, dancing, sketch comedy, and theater.

Show warning: This production contains adult language and content and is intended for mature audiences.

MUSIC TO OUR EYES: DESIGNERS SING OUT

Directed by Peter Rothstein and Kelli Foster Warder
Music Direction by Andy Kust
Videography and Video Design by Lucas Wells

Featuring Rich Hamson, Michael Hoover, Paul Toni, Abbee Warmboe with Andre Shoals and Britta Wells

You’ve seen the beautiful work of our designers on stage for years, now it’s time to hear their stories. Their clothes define a character; their lights figuratively and literally illuminate the story; their scenery creates the world of a play. For one night only they step into the spotlight and describe the events that have shaped their lives and their choice to become a theater designer.
